While brainstorming for UC essays, this student considered the importance of books and stories in his life. He realized that his love of reading motivated him to volunteer at the library several days after school. Because he was assigned to work in the children’s section of the library, he focused his community service essay on helping a crying young boy find the book that he was looking for. That experience also reminded him about the adventures that live within books, which became the focus of another essay topic about intense interests that make him feel like time has stopped.
